Sokoto state– In recent times, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has ruled out rumoured plans to field former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate in the 2023 presidential election, yet the debate lingers on.
The governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto has cleared the air concerning Jonathan’s absence at the recently concluded national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Tambuwal, Jonathan had an event to attend in Kenya hence, he was permitted by the party.

In an interview with Premium Times, the governor who is also the chairperson of the PDP’s Governors Forum said:

Meanwhile, Tambuwal who is the Chairperson of the PDP Governors’ Forum, played a key role in the success of the national convention and has been working with his colleagues to strengthen and stabilise the opposition party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Mr Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, also addressed the speculation of Jonathan’s possible defection to the APC.
The Nigerian politician noted that it remains a rumour but urged Jonathan not to consider the option as he might likely end up like Adams Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo state, has denied plans to dump the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor who appeared as a guest on Channels TV on Thursday, October 21, said he has no intention to contest for the office of the president or vice president in the coming 2023 general elections.
Governor Makinde also noted that since Nigeria's return to democracy in 1999, all the presidents the nation has had emerged "were called".
