Citation Wins Best International Film 2022

Nigerian Netflix film, Citation, has won best international film 2022.

The Nigerian film which was released on November 6, 2020 has won recognition and award in the National Film Awards in London.

The movie was directed by Kunle Afolayin and starred Temi Otedola, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Gabriel Afolayan, Sadiq Daba (of blessed memory), Ini Edo, Joke Silva among others.

Temi Otedola shared this via her Instagram story on Sunday, July 10, 2022, “and then citation won best international film!! Congratulations to KunleAfo and the entire citation family”.

National Film Awards also shared on its Instagram page on Thursday, July 7, 2022, “Big shout out to African cinema, taking the leap in the international film industry. Citation, proudly representing the African cinema, won Best International Film 2022 sponsored by the gorgeous and talented @RosaFaizzad at the #NationalFilmAwardsUK2022”.

It could be recalled that the film Citation brings a story of rape culture. The movie displays an environment where rape is normalized due to attitudes towards gender and sexuality especially in school.

The story follows Moremi, a bright young student who was not afraid to press charge against a professor who tries to rape her.
