Celebrations In Nigeria As Tobi Amusan Won First Ever Athletic World Championship

Nigerian track and field athlete, Oluwatobiloba Ayomide popularly known as Tobi Amusan won the World Athletics Championships in Eugene.

Tobi raced to Gold on the last day of the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in the women’s 100m hurdles events.

This happened on Sunday, July 24, 2022 (Oregon time but early hours of Monday in Nigeria).

She set a new African Record from Heat 3 in a time of 12.40s. She put up a performance that was expected for a final contest. In the semi final, she broke the world record set by Kendra that has stood for six years.

In the final, Tobi Amusan, ran 12.o6s to beat Olympic Champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. Amusan shed tears of joy when Nigeria’s national anthem was played during her Gold medal celebration. She got a prize money of $100,000.

She will compete at the Commonwealth Games beginning on Thursday, July 28 in Birmingham.
